May 1, 2024 – The 4th Annual St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Build has left a significant mark on the community, underscoring the success of our mission to provide affordable housing.
St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity’s mission to unite people to build homes, communities, and hope was beautifully realized in the 4th Annual Playhouse Build. This joyous event was a testament to the unity and collaboration of our St. Lucie County community. We designed and built custom playhouses for first responders and veteran families in a heartfelt tribute to our local heroes. A family was chosen from the Port St. Lucie Police Department, Fort Pierce Police Department, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, St. Lucie County Fire District, and the U.S. Army, along with one local nonprofit, Graceway Village, were the beneficiaries of this incredible project, showcasing the power of our united community.
The Playhouse Build was indeed a community-wide effort. Bob Cenk of CeCe Contracting acted as project manager – he recruited Treasure Coast Builder’s Association members as crew leaders, tasked with directing the teams in the construction of the playhouses. The crew leaders were Jim Brann from The Porch Factory, Niki Norton from N2 Architecture + Design, Mark Rogers of RDI Kitchens, Joseph Gianna from St Lucie Habitat for Humanity, Scott McCracken from Sawhorse Construction, and Joe Ciarvino of Coastal Building Contractors. Local businesses generously donated the materials: A-1 Industries and TechWood donated the plywood, Steve Frontera Roofing gave the shingles, and Texas Roadhouse and Moonswiners catered lunch. To ensure all was ready for build day on April 27th, the Project Lift skilled trades program cut the wood to form the walls and roofs of the playhouses.
The impact of the Playhouse Build was genuinely heartwarming. The Treasure Coast Builders Association (TCBA), Baron Real Estate, Fort Pierce Rotary, Fort Pierce Police Department, A-1 Industries, St Lucie Habitat for Humanity, U.S. Congressman Brian Mast, and Texas Roadhouse PSL all formed the build teams who transformed the playhouses from wooden structures to creations straight out of a child’s imagination. On April 27th, at Treasure Coast Lexus, over 80 volunteers watched as the playhouses were unveiled to the overjoyed first responders and veteran families. The kids’ immediate delight and excitement as they explored their customized playhouses, including sensory-inspired, frozen, and space-themed, was a testament to the success of this event. Your support made these smiles possible.
The success of this event, now in its 4th year, is a testament to the unwavering support of our local businesses and community members. We are deeply grateful to Baron Real Estate (Title Sponsor), Lytal, Reiter, Smith, Ivey & Fronrath (Tent Sponsor), A&G Pools (Raffle Sponsor), Texas Roadhouse (Food Sponsor), Moonswiners (Food Sponsor), A-1 Industries (Lumber Sponsor), Chem-Tech Holding (Lumber Sponsor), Steve Frontera Roofing (Roof Sponsor), Team IP (Video Board Sponsor), and Treasure Coast Lexus (Facility Sponsor) for their invaluable contributions. The Playhouse Build is not just a fun community event-it’s a crucial part of our efforts to support St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity’s New Homeownership program. This year, Habitat has partnered with twelve local low-income families to build places for them to call home. By participating in the Playhouse Build, you are directly contributing to this vital cause. There are many other ways to get involved with Habitat, from donating funds or furniture to shopping at one of the ReStores to volunteering at the construction sites.
